Air plants are extremely easy to care for and can be used to create dramatic displays.
If you have a terrarium with air plants which are nestled within the display, remember to immerse the plant in water for a couple of hours once every 10 days. Let the plant dry upside down, to prevent the root from staying soggy and rotting, before repositioning back in the terrarium. Air plants also benefit from regular misting. They are great for a slightly humid spot in your home or workplace.

Poinsettias - we are extremely fortunate to be able to offer red, alaska white, marble (pink & white), burgundy, cortez electric, as well as the highly sought-after glitter version.
Prevent leaf damage from keeping it warm, above 12 degrees Celsius, even though our East Yorkshire grown plants are hardier than supermarket bought ones and are grown to last well beyond Christmas. Choose a spot with bright / indirect light and only water once the top third of the soil is dry.

Schlumbergera are the perfect Christmas plant and are also known as the 'Christmas Cactus'.
They prefer a spot out of direct sunlight, despite being a cactus and like high levels of humidity. Regular misting, a position next to a humidifier or placing the pot on a tray of gravel filled with water are all ways to ensure this plant has the right growing conditions.
After it has flowered move the plant to a cooler spot and reduce watering. From April, move to a warmer position and start to feeding with a good plant fertiliser to encourage new buds. Move back to cool conditions in September and reduce watering schedule.

Open terrariums need careful watering and monitoring of their moisture levels.
Remember to remove debris, prune plants that have leaves touching the glass as they will be getting too big and keep the glass / interior clean.
Plants in open terrariums do not need high levels of humidity. The glassed-in-space promotes bright, light conditions.
Moss terrariums need a light water once a week to keep the moss green and healthy.
Plant-heavy terrariums need to be watered twice a week. Use a spray gun to guide the water to the plant roots. Avoid putting your terrarium in direct sunlight as this will dry it out and the plants will get over heated. Remember to rotate your terrarium to ensure even growth.
For cacti & succulents terrariums water only when the soil is completely dry. For other plant terrariums water lightly or mist once a week. Do not over-water as these containers have no drainage holes and so all of the excess water collects at the bottom and causes the roots of the plant to rot.

Closed terrariums create their own ecosystem and even become self-watering.
Place away from windows or in a spot with bright direct light as most issues are caused by too much light and heat. Ideally sit 1m from a north-facing window, 3m from an east facing / wets facing window and 5m from a south facing window. Remember to rotate your terrarium to ensure even growth.
There should be condensation up to a third of the height of the container. This means the terrarium is maintaining an even level of humidity and will become 'self-watering'. If the condensation line is higher than a third, remove excess water by opening it up and carefully wiping the inside using kitchen roll. if there is very little condensation add a tablespoon of water.

These plants are also known as the 'flamingo flower' and are easy to grow. We have them available in white, purple, red and pink in the shop.
Keep the compost moist throughout the year; avoid waterlogging, which causes root rot. Mist every few days or set on a tray of damp pebbles. Fertilise every 2 weeks from Spring to Summer, with a half strength liquid fertiliser.

This striking genus of plant belongs to the Araceae (Arum) family and with an estimated 900 species it is the second-largest species in the family. Philodendrons are native to the Americas and found stretching across the continent from north to south. The species consists of two main types, non-trailing and vining plants which are both popular amongst houseplant lovers for the abundant feeling they create.
Overall these plants are a true wonder to have in the home and with their ability to grow huge tropical-looking glossy green leaves or gorgeously trail up a moss pole, with the added benefit of being able to purify the air in their surroundings. This easy-to-care-for house plant is sure to add a sense of magic to your environment and leave you wanting more.

Water: Moderate - soil should be kept slightly moist but not wet or soggy
Humidity: Moderate - high (they can tolerate 40% humidity but require heavy misting)
Soil: Well-drained soil that can retain moisture between watering
Feed: A good liquid houseplant feed every two to four weeks during the growing season. There’s no need to feed during the winter, light levels are much lower and the plant won’t use as much energy to grow
